The post holder will work from Ando Glaso office in Glasgow City Centre, from home and from third parties’ premises as appropriate. This post will be based in Glasgow, although the post holder will be expected to travel to appointments in other areas if required by the service demand. Whereas the job involves travelling to our service users’ homes at times, driving licence and own car with business insurance would be advantageous.
In case of lockdown the services will be run from home with face-to-face visits individually risk assessed. As lockdown eases, we will make decisions as a team about the best way to meet the needs of our service users. We envisage keeping our office base but also recognise that home working will be a greater feature of our work life than in the past.

Job Purpose:
​
The primary role for this post is to provide advocacy to Ando Glaso charity’s Roma service users who need additional advocacy assistance. Successful candidate will be required to keep records of activities and to provide regular reports to Ando Glaso’s board. The Worker will adhere to strict confidentiality and impartiality rules and to follow valid data protection policies.
The Advocacy Support Worker will also be responsible for delivering information and presentations to Roma service users as well as for conducting surveys and participating in academic research carried out by Ando Glaso’s partners.
A good level of English knowledge is required and knowledge of Romanes is an advantage.

Job Duties:

Providing advocacy support to Ando Glaso’s service users from different strands of Roma communities. The Worker will be able to assist the service users within areas like welfare, benefit claims, health, employability, education and others as required to address poverty and social deprivation.

Advocacy advice will be provided by the Worker or by referring to available services and partner organisations. Interpreting support will be available for service users either via the Worker or the interpreting support staff.

To work independently - often lone working - and as part of a team, to ensure that the service proceeds within the policies, procedures and guidelines as approved by the Ando Glaso’s board and reflects statutory and professional obligations.

To create, administer and fulfil flexible working pattern in order to deliver on advocacy project’s aims and goals.

Assist young service users with their personal and professional development along their cultural activities within Ando Glaso. PVG registration certificate would be preferable for candidates.

Provide employability advice to service users like creating a CV, assisting with job search and job applications. Referring to and liaising with training providers, career advise services, job centres and other agencies in order to support service users into employment.

Generate, accept and record referrals; screen, prioritise and allocate referrals in line with the project criteria.

Discuss, explain and agree the action plan with the service user and draw adequate deadlines for the action plan delivery. Agree on a mandate for action and record the person’s views on their situation.

Monitor the progress of the advocacy intervention and the persons experience through the progress review.

Complete and maintain project files and reports. Participate in the collection of information required by the project for self-evaluation.

Liaise with Creative Director and board of Ando Glaso as well as other associated partners. Allocate and coordinate working plans for Support Interpreting Staff.

Participate in recruitment of volunteers and delivery of training to volunteer advocates when required.

Participate and contribute to ongoing learning and development both personally and as a part of Ando Glaso’s project delivery.

To fulfil any other reasonable duties as directed by Creative Director and Board of Ando Glaso.
