Making Space: Roma Accessing Arts & Culture

 

​This symposium brings together Roma and non-Roma artists, leaders, and changemakers to explore how Roma arts and culture can gain real space and visibility in mainstream society.

With performances, panel talks, breakout labs, and a special Roma Gala, the event is an important milestone in Roma representation and a call to action for inclusion, creativity, and justice.

Marius de la Brașov is a popular Roma singer from Romania known for his emotional manele music. With heartfelt lyrics and catchy rhythms, he creates the ultimate Roma party atmosphere. His energetic style and strong voice have made him a favourite at parties and Roma celebrations across Europe.

ZOR is a high-energy Roma band from Glasgow, blending raw tradition with fresh, modern vibes. With bold beats and powerful stage presence, they bring Roma pride to life at every gig. Their sound is all about celebrating identity, heritage, and the unstoppable spirit of the Roma communities.

Lucie Bikárová is a rising Czech pop and Romani singer known for her powerful voice and emotive performances. She began singing at age 4 and gained national attention as a finalist in the 2020 season of ÄŒesko Slovenská SuperStar. Fluent in Romani, she collaborates frequently with artists like Jan Bendig and Refew, bringing Romani culture to mainstream audiences.

Bobby Blaze, also known as Bobby Blakka, is a dynamic hip-hop artist and DJ with roots in the Czech Republic and a base in Manchester, UK. Dubbed the "Roma Snoop Dogg" by fans, he gained significant attention with his hit single "Mary Jane," amassing over 13 million streams.

Come along to the craft fair on Saturday where you will be able to browse through the work of Roma and Traveller makers, enjoy various exhibitions, workshops and performances from the morning till the afternoon. - Free Entry

This year’s Ando Glaso festival will include a short film competition with cash prizes for the 3 best films. Open to anyone from Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community across Britain, this film competition is designed to amplify the voices of community film makers. 

The event is organised and curated by British Romany film maker Jake Bowers and Drive2Survive CIC which fights for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller cultural survival. - Free Entry

Ruva is a fiery Gypsy music and dance group, channeling the raw spirit of Transylvania and Hungary. With pounding rhythms, powerful footwork, and traditional tunes full of soul, they bring Roma heritage to life on stage. Ruva is all about freedom, rhythm, and the untamed energy of Roma culture.

Del Artek is an authentic Gypsy jazz band with Roma, Polish, and Scottish roots, blending virtuosity and soul in true Django Reinhardt style. Their music is steeped in tradition, full of swing, sparkle, and spontaneity — a celebration of cross-cultural connection and the timeless sound of Gypsy jazz.

One of the world’s most acclaimed Roma musicians, Tcha Limberger is a master of Gypsy jazz, Hungarian folk, and Transylvanian traditions amongst many others. Joined by top players from Hungary and Transylvania, he leads a powerhouse ensemble through a spellbinding journey of Roma music at its finest.

To close this year’s Ando Glaso Roma Fest with something truly unforgettable, we’re bringing in a special guest from another vibrant tradition. Sambroso All Stars, the UK’s most authentic Cuban band, will bring the festival to a powerful finale with their electrifying rhythms and soulful energy. As a gift to our Roma audiences, this is a chance to experience the passion of Cuban music and celebrate cultural connections and heritage through music, dance, and joy.
