Freelance Communications Officer

8 hours/week @ £15/hour

1 year contract

As a Roma-led organisation, Ando Glaso is dedicated to supporting, showcasing and nurturing Roma talent, culture and artists. Through our work we aim to remove barriers faced by Roma artists seeking to progress their careers in Scotland’s cultural industries and ensure their presence on the mainstream cultural scene. The Freelance Communications Officer is a part time freelance role for 8 hrs per week and will be a crucial role in helping our organisation communicate its aims, content and successes to our network. The position will require a creative person with a strong interest in Roma culture and arts and will support us to create engaging content to help grow our audiences through social and traditional media formats. This role will also require strategic thinking through the development and implementation of a Communications Plan, working with key members of our team to plan, create and deliver high quality engaging content.

Main Duties

 

  • Work with the Director and other key members of staff to create a Communications Action Plan which will include KPIs. 

  • Creating engaging content using the outcomes of Ando Glaso’s various projects through a variety of mediums including but not limited to; 

       - Traditional media / Press releases.

       - Social Media - twitter, facebook and instagram

       - Monthly Newsletters

       - Podcasts

  • Growing our digital audiences

  • Building relationships with organisations via social media

  • Liaising with the Creative Director, Development Manager, Support Workers, artists and young people.

  • Manage associated budget. 

  • Evaluation on key aims and targets. 

Necessary

 

  • Minimum 3 years Communication experience in the Creative Industries. 

  • Excellent Communication skills.

  • Excellent management skills in the development and delivery of  a communications plan and associated budget. 

  • Strong understanding of the cultural sector and traditional/contemporary arts.

  • Strong understanding of the barriers Roma and other artists from marginalised communities may face when seeking to forge a career as a performing artist.

  • A commitment to our values, tackling the cultural deprivation of Roma communities.

  • A drive to diversify the cultural scene of Scotland, embedding Roma and other diverse people and cultures into the mainstream.

  • Ability to create engaging content via various media streams.

  • Ability to contribute to the crafting of creative and impactful industry influencing campaigns.

  • Ability to create and maintain positive and meaningful working relationships with other staff to achieve shared goals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for example working with others.
     

Desirable

 

  • Mentoring experience

  • Folk / Traditional Music experience / interest. 

  • Strong passion for Roma arts and culture.

  • Experience in working with artists from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
